NCMEA Scholarship

LIGHTHOUSE WIND MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED

Barker, New York – January 22, 2019 – Lighthouse Wind has awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Austin Dick, a senior at Lockport High School who plans to study music education with a minor in jazz studies at Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester. This scholarship expands the benefits that wind energy projects bring to local communities, including tax revenue and support for local school districts, counties, townships, and public services.

“He is so thrilled to be receiving such a generous scholarship,” says Austin’s mother, Kathy Bleiler-Dick, adding that he has enjoyed music throughout his life and has participated in NCMEA solo festivals since he was in fifth grade. “He will be certain that it will be used wisely to further his education. His passion for teaching extends to a job coaching students at Flips Gymnastics, leading young children at church, and participating in a summer student-led jazz band. Austin would like to thank Lighthouse Wind for supporting his future in music.”

The Lighthouse Wind Music Scholarship is available to a graduating high school senior in Niagara County who has committed to pursuing music at a college or university. Eligible students must attend a Niagara County Music Educators Association (NCMEA) member school and be a candidate for graduation in June 2019. Scholarship candidates were required to complete an application, including a resume, an official high school transcript, and a letter of recommendation. Additionally, students were interviewed by and auditioned for scholarship judges.

“The Lighthouse Wind Music Scholarship is a wonderful opportunity to reward a student’s hard work and commitment,” said Lighthouse Wind Development Manager Paul Williamson. “We are excited to be a part of NCMEA for a second year and to encourage arts in the schools. It is incredibly rewarding to make such lasting investments in our next generation.”
